When Speakeasy was founded in 1985 by the fabulous Stephanie Holland, we were the first aphasia charity in the UK – and possibly the world.

Speech and language therapist Stephanie refused to stand by and see people with aphasia ‘fall into the abys’ with no one to support them. So, she set about changing things in her own inimitable style.

Now, as Speakeasy turns 40, our working methods remain as groundbreaking as our founder’s fashion choices.

We’re still pioneering new ways forward for – and alongside – people with aphasia. For example, we were one of the first organisations to use computers for therapy in long-term support, and as far as we know it, the first to invent a choir without words.

We’d love your support. Fancy hats entirely optional.
